Well, nothingmuch has really happened since I last posted...
So far the rehearsals for the Celtic Quartet have gone well. I am trying my best to memorize a few of them... Red, Red Rose is pretty easy; the Gloomy Night (apparently quite a rare one for Burns, in that it was in pure English, not broad Scots) has 4 verses, so I'm not guarantee-ing anyone that it will be memorized :)
Because of the price of the performances, my parents aren't able to attend either of them, but since Doug had a gig at Borders on Sat. night, he invited us to come along and sing a bit during this sets. This way, my parents were able to see at least some of the stuff that we do.
I went to the gym--for the first time in my life-- BEFORE work. That was interesting. And not quite bad :) It just takes planning (having breakfasts and lunches already made so you don't have to hurry any more than you already have to).
Re: Tristan and Isolde.... I was pretty disappointed. I'm sure the movie was decent, but when you've read the legend, you tend to be pretty disappointed. To be fair, there are a number of versions, none the same, though 2 of them share quite a bit of detail. This film took away the LOVE POTION. That's the main detail in the early part of the story. Any Wagner fans will also be disappointd. The acting was fine, and I did enjoy King Mark as well as Tristan .
I've also received a letter of inquiry to another State position a few levels up and over; the pay wouldn't begin too much higher, but it has potential. So... between my "other things" that I've got brewing, this new possible interview, and hopefully another few things not too far from now, my future (at least financially) looks not too dim :)

OK Am I the only one who likes Dancing with the Stars? Am I the only one who is looking forward to Skating with Celebrities? Please comment!

I'm trying something new... until I get more traffic for this journal (I admit the major burden is upon me to keep POSTING somewhat frequently), I'm going to make a few public posts.

... and I don't have much of an excuse. I even make my way to my Friends page at least once/week to see what you all are up to. Yet I still don't update mine on any regular basis? As I said, no excuses.
Some kind-of interesting things have been happening, I guess. I've been keeping in touch w/ Donny (good), and we hope to see each other in the next 6 months.
The out-of-class pay I was promised has finally arrived. And not only was it NOT the 5% pay raise (temporary) that was described, it's about $350 more per month, after taxes. I was just paid for 2 months, and since the new exec. asst. will be starting Jan. 23rd, I have 3/4 of Jan. to be paid out-of-class, as well. I'm pretty happy about that :)
I have a few things that I'm looking into at the moment, but, contrary to my nature, I am not going to be blabby about them. Not that anyone here would mind or not mind if I said anything... it's just that I am such a talker and such one to just not keep anything inside, that I need to do these things w/o telling the whole world, for once. There. That's all I'll say. (But I will post updates here as they are final/if they happen, etc.)
I was going to do a production of The Pirates of Penzance, but I had to back out. Rehearsals didn't start till this coming week, anyway, but w/ the things I have going, I need to concentrate on them.
Late in 2005, I was asked to be part of a Celtic quartet, and we're performing at a Burns Supper on Jan. 25th. Supposedly it's paid, but all I know is that they provide our dinner (it's haggis, barf, but I've been promised that they will have other vegetarian items-- here's to the olden days of first being a vegetarian when my meals were often made up of "everything but the main course" ). Anyway, there's another gig in mid February, so hopefully this will end up being a more regular thing.
I opened my mouth and expressed interest in learning Celtic harp (of course I do not owe one and I've never touched a string instrument in my life; only flute and piano). Well, our leader of the quartet just happens to know someone who plays Celtic harp, and bright and early this morning I had an email from him, CCing her, and then a reply from her letting me know that she could probably get me some lessons (didn't mention price or anything like that, which would of course be a hindrance, other than the fact that I don't have a harp, nor access to one :). But at least it's an avenue that I might be able to explore :)
I'm also going to the gym more. Though it might not be all that evident yet , as I only went once this week. I did go 3 times last week, almost 4. I was going to go w/ my dad, but he was called away to work (was actually on call) and when I looked up at the clock, my friend Dawnyelle was due over, so I had to shower and do the "let's get ready" shuffle which includes quickly taking out garbage (or in my case, getting the garbage near the front door so as to not forget to take it out on your WAY out). We did our little gift exchange and WOW let me just tell you what she gave me: a purple (!) t-shirt w/ self-styled lettering on it. She spelled out (in Latin) "Fac me bene". Now, seeing it in print (as well as hearing it) is kinda shocking at first, especially if you don't speak / read Latin. It kinda sounds like "F*ck meh behneh" (excuse the bad English phonetics; I don't have all of the characters of IPA on my keyboard). Anyway... it means both "make me well" or "do me good" LOL. Well, perhaps that's not entirely correct, but it certainly is entertaining to have there. I wore it (forgot I had it on) to my parents last weekend and their reaction was, "WHAT does your shirt say?!" It was quite a laugh :)
OK so otherwise, I've just been working. And working and working. Since I got back from Scotland, I haven't had any time off, which is fine. I knew that I couldn't take any time off except sick leave (which you don't WANT to have to use), but I find it HIGHLY irritating that the State makes you get 49 (or so) hours of vacation time before you can A) take any vacation and B) get DIRECT DEPOSIT. What the hell does having vacation time on the books have to do w/ my bank?!?! It's CHEAPER to go through DD! It's more expensive and more "dangerous" (as far as a check getting lost) if it's done the old fashioned way. Anyway, that will change soon enough, I guess. My 6 month probation ends Feb 28th, and as of March 1, I'll be able to get it. We'll see.
Hmm -- that brings me to another things. This time, a good thing :) Last summer, while still working for UWA, I got ahold of a free movie pass. I forget what the movie was, just that I was rather pissed off that, after arranging to drive downtown and PAY for parking that the movie was "sold out". How can this happen, you might ask, when it's only a preview and only by free passes? Well, apparently they give out WAY too many passes, and just hope that enough people come to fill the seats. So, after much complaining, I got someone there to give me an alternative: give us your address and we will send you, at a later date, a free pass.
Well, yesterday the free pass came (this is for 2 people / pass). And the movie? TRISTAN AND ISOLDE. Can we say AWESOME?! Now I'm not saying that this is going to be the flick of the year, only that as the focus of a Wagner opera, a famous myth/legend, and even much hyped as the archetypal representation of the changes in Western Society w/ regards to the Divine Feminine by Robert A. Johnson (a student of Jung's), I am VERY much looking forward to a (hopefully) decent depiction of this story.

I think that's enough rattle for now. I'm sure as I get going (hopefully tomorrow) again, I will add lots more. Hopefully next time I'll list things I'm thankful for, including the a few of the things I got for Xmas.

Hope to hear from some of you soon :)

Oh how accurate can we be, now?

OK So now I'm off to a funeral. My uncle (well, my mom's foster brother, whom I only ever knew as my uncle) had a seizure last weekend and just, well, died. He was 41, and had had seizures on and off his whole life, but obviously nothing as serious as this last one.

Rest in peace, Dean. Gott hat seinen Engeln befallen ueber dir.

The Moon Card
You are the Moon card. Entering the Moon we enter
the intuitive and psychic realms. This is the
stuff dreams are made on. And like dreams the
imagery we find here may inspire us or torment
us. Understanding the moon requires looking
within. Our own bodily rhythms are echoed in
this luminary that circles the earth every
month and reflects the sun in its progress.
Listening to those rhythms may produce visions
and lead you towards insight. The Moon is a
force that has legends attached to it. It
carries with it both romance and insanity.
Moonlight reveals itself as an illusion and it
is only those willing to work with the force of
dreams that are able to withstand this
reflective light. Image from: Stevee Postman.

Although this journal has been "friends only" posting wise for quite a while, I'm updating it in this way: if you would like to be added as a friend, please leave a comment here, letting me know how you found me, why you'd like to be added, etc. :) Really, it's not painful. It's just so that people blindly expect me to add them in return.

Looking forward to hearing from you :)
